Woolworths is one of the most contemporary brands in South Africa that I
know of that have held consistency in their branding, whether if it’s the
branding on their latest clothing line or their organic produce. Their earlier
logos had used a serif typeface and it gave the brand a sense of
sophistication, elegance and maturity and that there products are of a high
class.
The logo then changed to using a sans-serif typeface, which makes it
more appealing to people of all ages whilst still maintaining a sense of
sophistication, with it. They also make use of just black and white in their
logo and use a white “w” on a black square background.
The imagery that is used for their clothing line uses young models so
that the brand can appeal to the people of the age groups of 18 – 30. The
branding on the food produce also follows a simple clean look, and they make
use of the colour green to promote the idea of the food being organic and
healthy.
